Full Of Exuberance

This was the month of October when I visited Beijing, the capital of China. Flowers in full bloom. Pleasant sunny weather. On a beautiful bright day I took taxi to visit the Tiananmen Square as I had heard exciting things about the celebrations happening there.

After an hour’s drive from my hotel I reached the parking point of Tiananmen Square. Further it was a long walk. Tiananmen Square is situated in the center of Beijing.

As I approached the famous Square I was amazed at the spectacle of color and festivity all around. Chinese flag fluttered gloriously. Whole area was swarmed with people. Chinese people were enjoying their holidays of ‘golden week’  This is the popular term used for national day holidays of three days combined with weekends, thus making it a whole week of holidays. Joyous time. Many fun activities were happening at the Tiananmen Square. Festooned vehicles enlivened the whole area. I merged with local people and became a part of their festive mood.

After relishing each moment with the swelling crowd, I visited prominent monuments in the area. Monument of the People’s Heroes, commemorating the martyrs, stands tall in the center of Tiananmen Square. Then there is National Museum of China. And the prestigious Mao Zedong Memorial Hall. Mao Zedong was the founder of the People’s Republic of China. Tiananmen Square also comprises the Great Hall of People where National People’s Congress is held.Tiananmen Square was designed and built in year 1951.  This was named after Tiananmen Tower, close by, which means the gate of heavenly peace. Measuring 440,000 square metres, Tiananmen Square is considered to be the largest city square in the world. It has the capacity to accommodate approximately 1,000,000 people. National flag raising ceremony is performed in Tiananmen Square.Laughing, clicking, that was my day full of exuberance at Tiananmen Square.
